SUMMARY:

It deals with the indexing of regional literature in public libraries in the city of Crato, Ceará. It brings a historical overview of public libraries in Brazil and in the world, as well as presents the conceptual aspects of public libraries and the organization of information, specifically indexing. It also walks through the literature indexing models produced in the area of Librarianship and Information Science, with emphasis on the Guidelines for Indexing Aesthetic-Literary Works and analyzes the concepts referring to what regional literature consists of. Methodologically, it is an applied research, and according to its more general purposes, it can be considered an explanatory research. In terms of methods employed, the research has a strong bibliographical dimension and also has a documental aspect. It can also be treated as a case study, since it will investigate in depth few objects of study, placing the example of analysis of the work Os Brilhantes, by Rodolfo Teófilo. It proposes the construction of a protocol for indexing regional literature from Ceará in public libraries, as well as the construction of a controlled vocabulary, with the purpose of contributing to the qualification of indexing regional literature from Ceará in public libraries in Crato.
