RESUMO:

The semi-arid region of Brazil is heavily hit by recurrent droughts, with most of its soils have a crystalline basement, which gives inferior quality to the waters of its subsoil. The use of irrigation in this region is not always viable, due to limited water quantity or poor water quality and shallow soil conditions. Hydroponics, however, is not restricted to the soil and crops grown under hydroponics are more tolerant to salinity, which allows the use of more saline or brackish waters. Faced with this problem, the objective of this research is to evaluate the performance of lettuce Americana and Crespa under different salinity levels of the solution (1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0 and 5.0 dS m1) in an automated and low-cost NFT (Nutrient Film Technique) hydroponic system, and so , check to what level of salinity it is possible to economically exploit this crop with saline or brackish water. Benches B1, B2, B3, were divided transversally into six blocks with five treatments (A, B, C, D and E) and five replications, in a factorial scheme of 3 x 5 x 5, with 25 plants per block, totaling 150 plants. In the research, an automated system for irrigation using Arduino and temperature and humidity sensors will be developed, and physicochemical data of the nutrient solution water (EC, pH and Temperature), morphological data of the plant (NF, MFT, MFR) will be evaluated , MFF, MST, MSR) and crop yield calculation. For the statistical analysis of the data, RStudio and R version x64 4.0.4 software will be used.
