Public Educational Policies in Times of Pandemic: an analysis of the relationship between university extension and Sustainable Development at the Federal University of Cariri (UFCA)

This research aims to analyze how the issuing and receiving of extension practices developed by the Federal University of Cariri (UFCA) occurs from the perspective of sustainable regional development in the current context of the COVID-19 pandemic and social isolation. In this way, it is guided by the following guiding question: How has UFCA contributed to the promotion of local sustainable development from its experiences of extension in the municipality of Juazeiro do Norte - CE in times of pandemic and social isolation? Therefore, the following are specific objectives: a) to reflect on the theoretical-practical relationship between university extension and sustainable regional development; b) understand the perspective of university extension undertaken by UFCA from its institutional documents; and c) identify how UFCA has conducted extension projects and programs in the context of social isolation. To this end, UFCA is defined as a field of study in the context of its programs and extension projects in the areas of education, environment and work in 2020. Furthermore, the methodological path that guides the research consists of a study of case of descriptive approach and qualitative analysis of the results. It was defined as subjects of this research: students / fellows of extension, teachers, these being represented by a sample that will occur through the selection of projects and programs of university extension from the previously mentioned areas. As a result, it is expected to understand how UFCA has developed its university extension actions and what are the effects of these actions in the local context.
