ANALYSIS OF SUSCEPTILITY TO FLOODING IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF JUAZEIRO DO NORTE-CE.

Sustainable development carries a fundamental character in eight dimensions described by the economist Ignacy Sachs, among them, the environmental dimension is closely linked to the context of this study. It addresses the casual relationship between urban growth patterns and environmental phenomena. It is in this panorama that the Geographic Information System (GIS) is considered as a vast and powerful tool to support urban planning. In this sense, the analysis of susceptibility to flooding of regions by means of GIS represents information of high importance for the government as a support to the process of urban zoning, delimitation of risk areas and for the allocation of resources for corrective and preventive purposes. . This study aims to determine areas susceptible to flooding in the municipality of Juazeiro do Norte-CE through geoprocessing techniques with data on slope, elevation, accumulated water flow, level curve, soil type and land use and occupation.
