RESUMO:

In recent decades, the need for a new development model based on environmental, social, economic and institutional sustainability emerges in the face of disparities between central and peripheral countries. In this sense, sustainable regional development has been discussed as one that, in addition to guaranteeing the livelihood of current generations, should provide the survival of future generations. More specifically, the research aims to demonstrate the importance of including theoretical activities and environmental education practices in the school context, as a way to contribute to the realization of this development model. Thus, the general objective is to analyze the theoretical and practical activities of EE in the secondary / vocational high schools of Juazeiro do Norte-CE, according to the dimensions of Sustainable Regional Development (economic, social, environmental and institutional). In this context, methodologically primary data will be collected from semi-structured interviews with the managing nuclei, teachers; and also through the application of questionnaires to students, in order to understand their perceptions about environmental education and changes in habits and attitudes around environmental sustainability. It is also essential to resort to secondary data, obtained through bibliographic and documentary research and main official websites of the Federal and State government. Thus, it is expected from this research that the schools, objects of study, are directing their environmental education practices according to national legislation and that, thus, students who are being prepared for the labor market change their habits, attitudes and behaviors in view of this perspective, in order to provide the sustainability of the sustainable regional development model, especially in the municipality of Juazeiro do Norte-CE, Cariri Metropolitan Region.
