SUMMARY:

The pedological heritage encompasses the diversity of soils and their characteristics, in addition to its vital role in preserving biodiversity, in the production of food, reducing the effects of climate change and preventing soil erosion, among other factors. This heritage, with its exceptional qualities, deserves attention special and must be protected through geoconservation strategies, notably in a municipality located in the semi-arid context of the Brazilian Northeast. In this context, the objective general purpose of this research was to analyze the pedological heritage of the municipality of Nova Olinda, Ceará, whose achievement was achieved through the following specific objectives: i) Prepare an inventory pedological analysis of Nova Olinda, providing a qualitative characterization of the soils in the municipality; ii) Carry out a quantitative assessment of the pedological inventory and propose a classification of pedosites in the municipality of Nova Olinda, considering their educational value and the risks of degradation; iii) Propose strategies for geoconservation and sustainable use of soils, promoting the dissemination, valorization and sustainability of the pedological heritage of the municipality inventoried and evaluated. The study area chosen for this research was municipality of Nova Olinda, located in the south of the state of Ceará, in the Northeast region of Brazil. O municipality has six classes of soil in its territory, this pedological diversity, considering its importance for environmental sustainability, it can play a role fundamental for geoeducation activities in the region, the core of the proposals geoconservationists made. The methodological script developed to pursue the objectives proposed was of a qualitative and quantitative approach, with surveys being carried out and fieldwork, bibliographic and cartographic surveys in office, and mapping
of the pedosites selected in the cabinet. During the field research, six pedosites along a route of approximately 25 km, which were evaluated qualitatively, using a form developed specifically for the research and, also, quantitatively. Quantification, specifically, focused on evaluating the Potential for educational use (VEd) and Risk of Degradation (RDe), based on the method proposed by Brilha (2016). Such assessments raise several strategies for local inventoried, because, for example, among pedosites, those that presented a high value of risk of degradation and a high value of educational potential, are those that need to have priority conservation actions. From the quantitative evaluation, it was also detected two pedosites with high risk of degradation, but it was concluded that the Argisol pedosite Red presents a greater threat to your physical integrity, due to being in a private area, being used for agriculture and livestock, activities that are managed in a incorrectly can cause impacts to the ground. Based on these analyses, proposals were made geoconservation and sustainable land use strategies, through the educational institutions, aiming to promote the dissemination, appreciation and sustainability of the pedological heritage of the municipality.
