SUMMARY:

One of today's greatest socioeconomic and environmental challenges is developing sustainable technologies for energy generation. In this sense, the use of methane generated in industrial slaughterhouse wastewater treatment plants constitutes an alternative source of sustainable energy, since its production in the treatment of this type of industry is high. However, its production depends, among other factors, on the type and quantity of organic matter present in the environment. Therefore, this research aims to identify the type of volumetric organic load that exerts the greatest influence on the production and composition of biogas in a UASB reactor treating industrial refrigerator effluents. To this end, it is necessary to investigate the fractions of organic matter predominant in the industrial refrigerator effluent, notably in relation to the particulate and soluble forms, evaluate the concentrations of biodegradable and recalcitrant organic matter in the soluble and particulate fractions and analyze the production and composition of biogas. in the researched UASB reactor. For this research, a UASB reactor subjected to volumetric organic loads (VOCs) of 5.8 to 9.5 kgDQO/m3.d will be used. Effluents from this reactor will be monitored through analysis of parameters indicative of the stability and operational performance of the reactor, in addition to analysis of the soluble and particulate fractions of biodegradable and recalcitrant organic matter. The biogas flow rates captured by the phase separator and the compositions of the biogas samples will also be determined. Based on the results obtained, it is expected to address the existing knowledge gap regarding the effects of the type of organic load on methane production in UASB reactors.
