SUMMARY:

The planning of water resources is a complex function, as it directly affects the interests of different sectors of society and often leads to conflicts over its use. In the case of a smaller unit and with well-defined water bodies, compared to hydrographic basins or even to hydrographic sub-basins. However, the Cariús river microbasin is located in the municipality of Santana do Cariri, in the south of the state of Ceará. Along its drainage area, the main river runs through occupied housing nuclei, where different economic activities are developed. With that, the inappropriate occupation of the soil and the lack of an infrastructure have been causing in the area several environmental problems, water and air pollution, erosion processes, inadequate garbage disposal, among others. In this perspective, this research aimed to understand the behavior of the Cariús river microbasin, taking into account its geospatial dynamics and its physical characteristics, through Geoinformation Systems (GIS), in a combination of spatial data from numerous formats and sources, thus providing the production of information from its cartographic visualization. For this, the research was divided into three articles: in the first, it presents how the dynamics of the microbasin occurs, from morphometric characterization, analyzing the morphometric parameters. The second article sought information aimed at the representation of its relief, highlighting its structural and sculptural forms. The third article deals with the relationships between classes of use and occupation, identified during their classification in the study area, compared and discussed on a time scale of 30 years. As a result, the research podê, based on the mapping sets carried out, enabled the production of data and primary information specifically aimed at the Cariús river microbasin, given the lack of research on the study area. In this way, it is concluded that the results obtained will help in new studies, being able to reach the sustainable use of the Cariús river microbasin, both locally and regionally.
