SUMMARY:

Juazeiro do Norte is one of the most important cities in the interior of the state of Ceará and apolarizing center, not only of the Metropolitan Region of Cariri (RMCariri), but also,from the southern region of Ceará and surrounding states in the Northeast.With the migrations at the end of thenineteenth century and the emergence of craft workshops, in the early twentieth century, the city began acommercial growth process, paving the way for regional development.Withpeople coming from various locations, the place has become a large representative mosaic andsymbolic, creating a daily life rich in experiences, expressed in cultures, whichmanifest through art, knowledge, practices, celebrations, popular traditions, etc., and that at the same timeover time they formed an important cultural heritage.In this context, the objectivemain part of the research was to analyze the knowledge produced in the city of Juazeiro do Norte, whichmake reference to the identities and memories of the groups that formed the city, to thinkand propose cultural heritage as a vector of sustainable regional development.AgainstIn addition, the research problem was structured on the preservation of cultural heritage and itscontribution to sustainable regional development, involved in the debate on theculture as a dimension of sustainability and its potential for the implementation ofSustainable Development Goals (SDGs).Methodologically, based on the referencetheoretical centered on culture, cultural heritage and sustainable development, the researchqualitative with an observational approach, it was developed in stages of surveybibliographical and documental;field and integrated analytics.The results providedunderstand the historical-social context of craft workshops in Juazeiro do Norte,correlated to the constitution of a diversified cultural heritage of the city, as well as,realize that the knowledge produced enhances the cultural heritage as a vector ofsustainable regional development, considering the creative capacity that agentspossess from their knowledge and cultural expressions.
