SUMMARY:

The proposed research aims to analyze the contribution of emancipatory knowledge as a path to sustainable regional development based on the Group's activities of Valorização Negra do Cariri (GRUNEC). At first I will present briefly the concept of race in Brazilian social thought, in order to demonstrate that this is not only an old debate, but also a disputed narrative, in the sense of make invisible or denounce racial inequities in the country and its relationship with the agenda of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Brazil, according to the maxim of the 2030 Agenda of “leaving no one behind”. Subsequently, I will analyze the relationships that are established between the social movement black, especially since the 1995s, and the production and systematization of knowledge in several areas of knowledge - theoretical and practical, from the struggles against racism in different dimensions. This social movement has constituted itself as an actor fundamental in contesting the myth of racial democracy and the interpellation of the State Brazilian with regard to the rights of the black population. to account for this objective I will use bibliographic and documentary research and the time frame from 1995 to 2020 Finally, I intend to analyze how the emancipatory knowledge produced or incorporated by organizations of the black movement, such as Bem Viver, and the work played by them, are fundamental to think about regional development sustainable in a black majority country like Brazil, where structural racism produces unequal opportunities and access to rights. This objective will have as a case study the Grupo de Valorização Negra do Cariri (GRUNEC), a social movement organization black with 20 years of experience in defending and guaranteeing the rights of the local black population. Through interviews and document analysis, I will seek to understand how the work of political incidence and direct actions of this organization promote and consolidate the sustainable regional development in Cariri.
