APPLICATION OF TOOL FOR ENVIRONMENTAL DIAGNOSIS OF
URBAN SOLID WASTE DUMPLANDS IN THE CENTRAL-SOUTH REGION OF CEARÁ
Dumps, Relix, Solid Waste.
According to the Global Panorama of Waste Management in 2024, the generation of municipal solid waste is expected to grow from 2.3 billion tons in 2023 to 3.8 billion tons in 2050. In Brazil, waste generation Urban solids increased in less than 10 years, from 67 million tons in 2010 to 79 million tons in 2019. This waste is found in landfills, ditches, vacant lots and urban streams, threatening public health and the environment. The South and Southeast regions of Brazil present better conditions, with more than 70% of waste being sent to appropriate areas. The new sanitation framework, Law No. 14,026/2020 determined the deadline for the end of landfills for the year 2024, after sequences of postponement of the deadline initially established by the National Solid Waste Policy Law No. 12305/2010. Ceará has more than 300 landfills, 5 of which are the targets of this study, and through tools and software, it will be possible to understand the impacts generated in the landfills in the south center of the state, including knowing the current conditions of the landfills in the municipalities under study and identifying existing impacts. The expected results include the identification of landfills with the greatest environmental impact, the prioritization of remediation actions based on impact levels and the contribution to improving solid waste management in Brazil.
