Dissertation Summary: This research presents as its central question the relationship between the emancipatory knowledge of the black movement, based on the actions of the Grupo de Valorização Negra do Cariri (GRUNEC), an organization of the black social movement with more than 20 years of experience in defense and guaranteeing the rights of the black population, as an instrument for sustainable regional development in Cariri, Ceará, with an emphasis on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Initially, the research is based on authors whose productions are based on emancipatory knowledge to critically dialogue with the concept of development. Subsequently, it historicizes the concept of sustainable development, as well as the process of elaboration and implementation of the United Nations (UN) Development Agendas, namely: the Millennium Development Goals and the Sustainable Development Goals. By outlining the concept of race in Brazilian social thought, I seek to demonstrate that this is not only an old debate, but also a narrative in dispute, in the sense of making invisible or denouncing racial inequities in the country and its relationship with the Goals agenda. of Sustainable Development in Brazil, in accordance with the 2030 Agenda’s maxim of “leaving no one behind”. The study also exposes the relationships that are established between the black social movement and the production and systematization of knowledge in different areas of knowledge - theoretical and practical, based on the struggles against racism in different dimensions. This social movement has constituted itself as a fundamental actor in interpellating the Brazilian State with regard to the rights of the black population and in contesting the myth of racial democracy, which denies racism by certifying that all people, regardless of how they declare themselves or are identified, have access to equal opportunities. Through the analysis of documents, especially from the institutional archive, the performance of the Cariri Black Valorization Group is analyzed based on the Sustainable Development Goals, in order to understand the relationship between political advocacy work and the direct actions of this organization with the promotion of sustainable regional development in Cariri.
