Ticks are arachnid arthropods and hematophagous ectoparasites from various hosts, such as domestic animals, wild animals and man. They are of significant medical and veterinary importance as vectors of pathogenic agents, such as protozoa, bacteria and viruses, transmitting various diseases to humans and wild and domestic animals. The tick that most affects the dog and the most prevalent in urban areas is R. sanguineus (Latreille, 1806), known as the dog tick. In combating these ectoparasites the indiscriminate use of synthetic chemicals causes problems to the environment and gradually becomes ineffective due to the ability to develop resistance by ticks. This scenario has encouraged researchers to seek new alternatives to combat ticks, and the use of essential oils and plant extracts is one of them. This work aims to indicate the plants with the greatest tick potential for dog tick control, present in national and international literature, applying a systematic review with meta-analysis. The research concluded that there are countless plants with potential ticks. In this study, the botanical species that achieved the highest mortality result against the researched ixodid was O. basilicum (basil or olives). At a concentration of 66.6 μL / mL, mortality was 100% in just 15 minutes.
