ABSTRACT

 

The Northeastern Brazil, characterized by the semi-arid climate and the irregularity of rainfall over time and prolonged drought events such as the one that has been occurring in the region in recent years, compromise agricultural production, public supply and other sectors. In this sense, research that promotes Sustainable Development together with scientific knowledge becomes essential for coping with climatic adversities, as well as providing subsidies for the implementation of public policies aimed at sustainability. The objective of this research was to compare rainfall data from rainfall stations of the Cearense Foundation of Meteorology and Water Resources (FUNCEME), with rainfall estimates of the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) satellite, product 3B43_V7, between January 1, 1998 to December 31, 2017, for the entire state of Ceará. In the first part of the research, the density of the studied pluviometers was analyzed according to the recommendations of the World Meteriological Organization (WMO) and in the second stage, the data of both sources were compared through the Pixel a Ponto (A and B), Point to Pixel (C), and Pixel to Pixel (D), together with the aid of the Inverse Weight of Distance interpolator, in the third step the comparisons were submitted to the statistical tests: Mean Absolute Error (MAE), Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), Percent bias (Pbias) and correlation coefficient (r). The results of the analyzes indicated that the number of pluviometry stations in Ceará is below that recommended by the WMO, whereas the estimated data on the rainfall of the TRMM were generally close to that observed in soil, and the comparison D showed the smallest errors and the highest correlation.
