AREA: Multidisciplinar
SUMMARY:

The pedological heritage covers the diversity of soils and their characteristics, in addition to their vital role in preserving biodiversity, food production, reducing the effects of climate change, and preventing soil erosion, among other factors. This heritage with its exceptional qualities deserves special attention and must be protected through geoconservation strategies. The general objective of this research was to analyze the pedological heritage of the municipality of Nova Olinda, Ceará. The specific objectives were: i) To elaborate a pedological inventory of Nova Olinda, making a qualitative characterization of the soils in the municipality and its immediate surroundings; ii) To carry out a quantitative evaluation of the pedological inventory and propose a classification of the soils in the municipality of Nova Olinda, considering their educational value and the risks of degradation; iii) To propose strategies for the conservation and sustainable use of soils, promoting the dissemination, valorization, and sustainability of the pedological heritage of the municipality. The study area chosen for this research was the municipality of Nova Olinda, located in the south of the state of Ceará, in the Northeast region of Brazil. What makes Nova Olinda notable is its pedological diversity, which stands out compared to other municipalities in the country. The methodological script developed to achieve the aforementioned objective is qualitative and quantitative, being compartmentalized into desk research, field research, and mapping of selected pedological sites. During the field research, six pedological sites were inventoried on a route of approximately 10 km, almost entirely located in Nova Olinda, which were qualitatively evaluated according to the Characterization Form of the proposed method. The quantification was focused on the evaluation of the criteria Educational Use Potential - VEd and Risk Assessment of Degradation - Rde. Among the pedological sites that achieved a high index in the quantitative evaluation.
