SUMMARY:

Macrofauna can be used as a bioindicator of the environmental quality of ecosystems because they are diverse, abundant and ecologically relevant. Therefore, some insects are considered essential for indicating environmental quality, since they respond to environmental changes, as well as respond efficiently to disturbances, providing information about the structure, functioning and composition of the ecological system. Thus, the research sought to inventory the macrofauna and analyze its influence as a bioindicator of the environmental quality of the Negreiro reservoir, located in Salgueiro in the Central Sertão of Pernambuco. The study perimeter is part of the Negreiros reservoir, which is located on the northern axis, of the São Francisco River Integration Project with the Northern Northeast Basins – PISF. To obtain data, two areas characterized as preserved and anthropized were used, these were explored in dimensions of 500 x 50m each. Data collection took place in two moments, divided into dry (July to December 2022) and rainy (January to June 2023) seasons, pitfall-type ground traps were used, each trap consisted of a container plastic with a volume of 500 mL, measuring 10 cm in height by 12 cm in diameter and the frequency of collections occurred from four monthly visits to each trap, totaling 24 collections in the dry season and 24 in the rainy season. After data collection, faunal indices were determined based on analysis and statistics. After analysis, it was found that a total of 14,621 specimens were collected in both areas (anthropized and preserved), distributed across 14 orders: Hymenoptera, Coleoptera, Araneae, Orthoptera, Diptera, Blattodea, Hemiptera, Scorpiones, Scolopendromorpha, Lepidoptera , Dermaptera, Opiliones, Phasmatodea and Odonata. For studies on environmental changes, Coleoptera, Blattodea, Orthoptera, Diptera and Hymenoptera were used. Regarding the rainfall indices observed in the two types of climate variability, the dry season presented 200.6 mm and the rainy season 342.2 mm. Regarding the distribution of macrofauna, in the dry and rainy seasons, the predominance of individuals in the dry season, with 11,946 specimens, distributed in 14 orders, while in the rainy season there were 2,675, distributed in 10 orders. Regarding the Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H'), the community presented (6.27), highlighting species diversity does not have a maximum value and its interpretation is comparative with higher values indicating greater diversity. The Pielou index (J’) was 0.83 and the Simpson index was 0.99. It is necessary to monitor the region's macrofauna, since it presented different characteristics from those observed in other research, where it was more prevalent in the dry season.
