SUMMARY:

More and more diverse environmental liabilities are disposed of in a familiar way,
leading to contamination of soil, fauna, flora and water bodies. the waste
generated from the sewage treatment process cause severe damage to the environment
environment.. The present work intends to carry out an investigation of the feasibility of using the
sewage sludge from an existing UASB reactor in the Metropolitan Region of Cariri
(RMC), as an organic fertilizer in the cowpea culture (Vigna unguiculata (L.) (Walp.)),
indicating the potential agricultural use of sewage sludge. The sludge used in the research came from
from Três Marias village, ETE located in the Municipality of Juazeiro do Norte-CE. Two were used
types of soil, one belonging to an area where there was no type of exploitation,
such as fertilization or crop development (Soil 1) and another soil sample where
had previous preparation, such as the cultivation of agricultural crops, use of agricultural inputs and
railing (Soil 2). The physical-chemical characterization was carried out for Soil 1
(considering Moisture, Total Solids, Total Fixed Solids, Total Volatile Solids,
Organic Matter, Organic Carbon, pH, Nitrate, Total Kjeldahl Nitrogen, Total Phosphorus,
Heavy Metals – Traces, Thermotolerant Coliforms, Escherichia coli, Salmonella and Eggs
viable Helminths), for the Soil 2 considered, Organic Matter, Carbon, Total Phosphorus,
Calcium, Sodium, Magnesium, Calcium, Magnesium, Sodium and pH. For the sewage sludge, the
agronomic potential (Organic Matter, Organic Carbon, pH, Nitrate, Total Nitrogen
Kjeldahl, Total Phosphorus, Calcium, Magnesium and Sodium), trace metals, microbiological agents
(Thermotolerant Coliforms, Escherichia coli, Salmonella and Viable Helminth Eggs) and
biosolid stability (Total Volatile Solids and . Total Solids).
