SUMMARY:

Arboviruses are currently a major public health problem. In Brazil, we highlight dengue, chikungunya and zika, transmitted to humans by female Aedes aegypti L mosquitoes. The control of this vector occurs mainly through the application of chemical products, however, its rampant use has brought serious problems such as to the environment and non-target species, as well as the resistance of this mosquito strains to such products. Thus, molecules of plant origin have been increasingly studied with the purpose of being used as an alternative to the use of chemical substances. Popularly known as janaguba, Himatantus drasticus (Mart.) Plumel. is often found in Chapada do Araripe, being widely used by the local population due to its latex being used in folk medicine for the treatment of diseases. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the larvicidal activity of extracts of latex of H. drasticus obtained from solvents of different polarities on A. aegypti, as well as to carry out a phytochemical prospection of the extract that would present the best results. results. The extracts were obtained by maceration from 5 g of latex powder, concentrated separately in 100 mL of the solvents methanol, ethyl acetate and hexane, for a period of 72 hours, after which they were homogenized in a magnetic stirrer for 30 minutes. . Then, the extracts were filtered and concentrated in a rotary evaporator to obtain the crude extracts. Concentrations of 100, 200, 300, 400 and 500 ppm of each extract on A. aegypti larvae were tested in triplicates. The tests were followed by a positive control based on pyriproxyfen and a negative control containing distilled water + DMSO. The phytochemical analysis of the methanolic extract showed the presence of several phenolic compounds, such as anthocyanins, anthocyanidins, catechins, chalcones, aurones, leucoanthocyanidins and condensed tannins. The methanolic extract of H. drasticus latex contains phenolic compounds and the insecticidal bioactivity on A. aegypti larvae from the latex extract of H. drasticus is more significant when exposed to the extract obtained by maceration in methanol. The lethal doses of H. drasticus latex methanolic extract recommended to control 50 and 90% of A. aegypti larvae are 190.76 and 464.74 ppm, respectively. The latex extracts of H. drasticus using methanol, ethyl acetate and hexane, in addition to causing larval mortality, also promote changes in the external morphology of the larvae, with more expressiveness for the methanolic extract. Being the first study with latex of H. drasticus on A. aegypti larvae, it serves as a basis for future studies that can isolate the chemical compounds present in the latex of this species and its use for the production of a natural larvicide to be used in the control of this species. vector. The bioactive activities demonstrated by the latex of H. drasticus reinforce the importance of carrying out a sustainable management of this Brazilian species in Cariri, Ceará, aiming at its conservation.
