RESUMO:

In order to give visibility to the processes of ethnic emergence that are related to processes of regional development, he prompted us to investigate this phenomenon in the Metropolitan Region of Cariri - RMC, not South of Ceará. Parallel form: from one side to the creation of RMC and its development projects and other processes of ethnic self-identification or running, especially, like the Cariri de Poço Dantas - Umari, em Crato. It is observed, through documentary analysis, that the plans and projects for this region are alheios and omissos as far as Kariri is present, not showing any specific action for this ethnic group. Despite this fact, the analysis of two stories that occurred during the II National Seminar of the Povos Indígenas do Cariri Cearense shows that a significant process of ethnic emergence, "of village uprisings", is underway. Finally, we place this setting in the perspective of two contemporary environmental challenges, we fear that two Kariri lifestyles remain, which keep a deep revergence and care with Chapada do Araripe, with Mãe Natureza, will guarantee a delicate, rich permanence. e different place. It is necessary to understand the sense of simultaneous protection established in this relationship - Kariri protects Chapada and Chapada protects Kariri.
