RESUMO:


Issues related to the generation of waste and its inadequate disposal in the environment is not a privilege of contemporary society. The countless environmental disasters resulting from this inadequate disposition, associated with popular pressures, led governments to draft laws to reverse this situation. Among these laws is No. 12,305, which deals with the National Solid Waste Policy in Brazil. This legislation, in addition to establishing the policy, educationally directs citizens regarding changes in attitudes, clarifying principles, objectives and instruments with regard to integrated management and the management of solid waste, as well as holding offenders responsible in a shared way. Within the scope of this theme is the Federal University of Cariri, which needs to develop and implement a management plan for solid waste generated in its campuses, in compliance with the principles established in Law No. 12,305. Thus, the objective of this work is to propose a management plan for solid waste generated at UFCA - Campus Juazeiro do Norte. The idea is to propose a plan that, in compliance with the guidelines of the Federal Law, ensures that all activities carried out on campus are controlled to avoid environmental pollution and consequences for human health. To achieve this goal, all waste generators on the campus were identified, the types of waste produced by each generator were classified and the gravimetric composition and specific weight of the waste analyzed were determined. Based on the results obtained, it was verified that the solid waste generators in the study area are the classroom, administrative rooms, offices, auditorium, library, warehouses, warehouses, university restaurant, canteen, bathrooms, laboratories and gardens sectors. the external and internal areas, in addition to the civil construction sector with urbanization and maintenance works. On average, 76.65 kg / day of waste is generated from the mentioned areas, excluding, in this percentage, restaurant waste
university, civil construction and garden pruning. Regarding composition, approximately 90% are class II-A. Of these, 40.53% are organic, 20.67% are toilet paper, 18.59% are plastic and 6.7% are paper. As for packaging, the different types of waste are disposed of in a single external storage location. In view of the above, it is suggested, among other measures, that a policy of non-generation, reduction and reuse of generated waste be instituted.
