Education is the basis for the formation of human beings endowed with the holistic dimension and ethics of respect for the diversity of the flow of nature, as well as respect for the diversity of cultures, as corollaries for sustainable life, that is, a decent life, ruled equity, respect for cultural differences, and the reduction of regional inequalities.
From this understanding about the role of education for sustainability, in favor of constitutional law to the ecologically balanced environment, we come to observe that negotiated and contractual management is the key to achieving a sensible use of nature, making possible the construction of a good society. In order to achieve this, higher education courses, especially Law, Psychology and Social Work courses, can promote interdisciplinarity and a culture of peace as vectors for sustainability (which should be considered as a transversal axis at all levels of education , according to Law 9394/96 - Law of Guidelines and Bases of Education).
The main objective of this study is to identify in the curricula of undergraduate courses and in the pedagogical practices of teachers, from an IES of the Metropolitan Region of Cariri, the valuation of the culture of peace and the mediation of conflicts as a possibility of education for sustainability, collaborating for sustainable regional development.
As specific objectives this research intends to make explicit the legal
Brazilian higher education and the principles that guide teaching practices; to identify the presence, in the curricular guidelines of undergraduate courses in Law, Social Service and Psychology, of the culture of peace in its relation with the mediation of conflicts and to analyze the pedagogical practices and didactics applied by the teachers in the disciplines of mediation of the mentioned courses.
