Electroplating is an industrial process, used by veneer jewelry industries, considered one of the major responsible for the production of hazardous waste. O inefficient treatment of their effluents as well as the inadequate disposition of their potential risks to the environment, implying sustainable development of the sector. The objective of this study is to to diagnose the galvanic industries installed and licensed in the municipality of Juazeiro Ceará, regarding the management of the waste generated, in order to subsidize the implementation of waste recovery and recovery programs, contributing to the for the formulation of public policies and alternatives for the development sustainable development of the sector. The methodology used was a study involving the application of questionnaire and simultaneously the collection of samples containing galvanic sludge and effluent crude and treated, in order to characterize the concentration of heavy metals present in the said samples and the efficiency of the treatment carried out by the companies. THE The chemical characterization of the treated effluents presented higher allowed by COEMA nº 02/2017, for some metals, with emphasis on Pb, in 91% of companies; Ni and Cr in 73%; Cu in 72%; the Zn by 45% and the Fe, Mn and Cd in 18% of companies. On average the metals that presented in great concentrations in the galvanic sludge were Cu, Pb, Ni and Zn. With regard to treatment efficiency, the analysis was performed based on the elimination of the concentration of metals, in the effluents treated. The company L10 presented the best efficiency in the treatment of its effluents, eliminating 71% of the metals present in the raw effluent. Next we have the L8 with an efficiency of 67% and L11 with 63%. The companies L4 and L5 could not eliminate no metal. The analyzes pointed to treatment inefficiency for metals Pb, Ni, Cr and Cu. The existence of more effective actions by the environmental agencies in proposing solutions and in the more direct follow-up of classified processes as potential environmental risks, constitute essential sustainable development of the sector.
