RESUMO:

The process of accelerated urbanization is something characteristic of modernity and
implemented in space, adding to the exacerbated generation of new technologies
causing modifications in the natural environment, besides causing the rampant increase
generation of solid waste. To this end, the end of the 20th century witnessed the
growing awareness of the degradation of the environment
arising from the development process. The deepening of the environmental crisis,
together with the systematic reflection on the influence of society in this process,
has led to a new concept of sustainable regional development. In that
horizon, the locus of this research are the sites of Santo Antônio, Baixa do Maracujá,
Cruze, Mane Coco, Cancelão and Jatobá in the district of Santa Fe belonging to the
Municipality of Crato - CE, metropolitan region of Cariri cearense. In this way, the
research seeks to analyze the process of population dynamics and externalities, whether
positive or negative effects on the environment in the places indicated above and
this phenomenon constitutes a risk arising from the use and occupation of
territorial. Methodologically, this communication is of a bibliographical and
field, with exploratory-descriptive character and quantitative approach.
