SUMMARY:

The present study presents a contextualization about reading and its
importance in the formation of the individual as an active subject in society, there is
since he, regardless of his area of knowledge, will produce
activities that focus on bringing benefits and progress in their
life as well as for the community that surrounds it, highlighting in this scenario the
performance of the educational sector that performs actions in the preparation of attentive to the
events in the social environment in which it is inserted, standing out in the meantime
activities aimed at training readers, especially in communities
rural.
Thus, reading is something that should be stimulated in the individual from childhood,
because it will be in these early stages of life that the child begins to establish
initial contacts with the written word and will gradually understand its meaning, which
over time will undergo a process of improvement and that this
may occur inside or outside the school environment. It is noteworthy that the
development of reading and writing are essential factors for the improvement
human, because they allow him to build knowledge, improve his ability to
reasoning, communication etc. Thus, reading contributes to the formation of the reader.
making him a critical subject, capable of arguing and exposing his opinions.
Within this scenario, the library regardless of its typologies
(public, school, community, etc.), emerges as an institution whose purpose is to
develop cultural actions that aim to promote the formation of readers, for
example, providing spaces for carrying out activities aimed at

mediation of reading and information, benefiting a portion of the population, this
type of action may favor people who live in rural areas, whose
access to information, as a rule, is reduced. Thus, one of the ways to promote
this access quickly, efficiently and effectively would be through the availability of
training spaces or information units that can meet the demand
information presented by the local community, for example, the library
community, whose existence represents an act of protest by the communities, the
omissions of the State in the promotion of actions of access to information and culture.
Thus, the performance of information units in these communities, whether
managed by the State or Society, it is essential for the population to
can enjoy spaces that provide this public with better conditions
for them because, having access to information in these places, changes
significant may occur in the power relations between the members of the
local community, especially in training new readers. Becoming like this,
subjects capable of seeking their rights as citizens, thus thinking about the
collective.
It is clear, therefore, how fundamental reading is in the daily life of citizens,
because it is through it that he becomes a subject capable of thinking critically, of fighting
for its objectives, claiming for improvements for the local community, aiming
offer access to quality information, which will contribute to the construction
knowledge that will make the individual critical of the events of society,
that is, someone competent in information capable of questioning, claiming rights
before society and the State, etc.
It is based on these elements that the present study under development
within the scope of the Graduate Program in Librarianship - PPGB of
Federal University of Cariri (UFCA), aims to understand the
importance of library contributions, especially the community library
for reader training. That is, through this study it is intended to
answer the following question: What contributions from a library
community in Sítio Leite, Juazeiro do Norte - CE, can bring to the community
site, as well as for the training of readers?
