SUMMARY:

Scientific production has grown more and more over time, as well as access to information, largely due to the ease provided by the world wide web. There were also setbacks, such as the growth of the practice of plagiarism and other violations of copyright. The Brazilian legal system establishes the rights of authors over their creations, in addition to providing for penalties for those who disrespect them. However, having an upstanding and honest academic environment is everyone's job, with some having actions that have a great impact, including librarians, considering that they can incorporate measures conducive to this end in their actions, such as Information Literacy. Thus, this research proposes, in general, to develop a theoreticalpractical instrument for education in information skills for librarians in the light of legal aspects in the ethical and normative use of academic information. Therefore, it seeks to describe the contemporary ethical-informational context and the problems that ravage the use and production of information in higher education, especially with regard to copyright; identify the consequences provided for in the Brazilian legislation applicable to those who violate such prerogatives; understand the role of academic librarians from the development of information skills, the ethical use of information and the fight against plagiarism. This is an exploratorydescriptive research, simultaneously with a bibliographic and documentary nature, concerning a qualitative study. As for data analysis, the method of interpretation of meanings was used. Through the results, it is intended to develop as a product an informative booklet on copyright and related matters, for librarians.
