RESUMO:

Investigates the existence of community libraries specifically in the municipality of
Juazeiro do Norte. The research problem consisted in carrying out a study in order to
answer the question: how is the reality of community libraries in Juazeiro do Norte,
Ceará characterized? As a general objective, the reality of community libraries in
Juazeiro do Norte was investigated, aiming at proposing a manual. To obtain this
purpose, the specific objectives aim to: investigate the existing Community Libraries in
the municipality of Juazeiro do Norte; identify within the community library concept
which of these instruments are really community libraries; and to propose the
elaboration of a documental instrument that can assist in the management and
organization of community libraries in Juazeiro do Norte. Regarding the methodology
adopted, the research is characterized in terms of purposes as exploratory and
descriptive, in terms of means, it is structured as bibliographic and documentary, with
regard to the nature of the data, it is a qualitative study. For data analysis and the
collection of information from the analytical process, the interview was chosen as a
data collection instrument, which was composed of semi-structured questions (open
and closed), for the data analysis phase, the technique of content analysis. Thus, the
results pointed to the existence of two community libraries created from a partnership
between the municipal government and institutions from other sectors of civil society,
in addition to the fact that these environments are subordinated to the institutions that
created them, the results also revealed the lack of participation of community members
in the functioning and decision-making of these spaces, in addition to highlighting the
inexistence of activities aimed at the management and organization of these
environments. As a conclusion, a documental instrument in the form of a manual with
recommendations was prepared as a final product of the research that guides those
responsible for community libraries in the follow-up of management, organization of
the collection, which can help in the effectiveness and interaction of their role as an
agent of culture. with respect to your collective.
