RESUMO:

This study aims to verify if the Cariri Regional Hospital, in Juazeiro do Norte, Ceará,
Brazil, uses the Electronic Health Record and Hospital Information Systems, with a
view to optimizing the Information Management against the National Health
Information and Informatics Policy. (PNIIS) in the context of the Information Society.
To this end, the work makes a bibliographical review about the topics considered
relevant for the construction of Information Management within the health unit in loco,
addressing information concepts, information mediation, Information Management
focusing on the electronic patient record as an effective tool. also brings literature on
health technologies, focusing on medical information management systems. It is
characterized as an exploratory, descriptive, bibliographical research. The analysis of
the results is based on the collection of information made through the questionnaires
that will be applied together to the doctors and the professionals who work in the
hospital archive, the NAC (Customer Service Center). The research also seeks to reveal 

if there is the realization of PNIIS within the Regional Hospital of Cariri, and propose
an Information Management policy, through the preparation of a manual, which will
guide information for the application of an Information Management consistent with
reality of the health unit.
