Mediation of literary reading in reading rooms: challenges and perspectives in the formation of readers in basic education
Reading mediation; Reader training; Literary reading; School.
The process of developing literary readers presents a series of challenges in everyday school life, the first of which is related to the literacy process, which is often carried out in a mechanical and compulsory manner in schools. This modus operandi seriously impacts the development of readers in basic education, resulting in limited development of actions aimed at this end. It is believed that the low level of encouragement for the development of readers in the school environment indirectly contributes to the decrease in the reading population in the country. It is emphasized that, despite the lack of school libraries, even with Law 12.244/2010, which provides for the universalization of these libraries, most public schools in the state of Ceará have so-called “reading rooms” and “reading corners,” which are spaces intended for the storage of collections and are almost always managed by a retrained teacher. In this context, the research seeks to analyze the actions developed in these spaces to strengthen reading development. The research aims to develop an educational proposal focused on reading mediation and the formation of literary readers in school reading rooms, with emphasis on the Girassol School, located in the city of Caririaçu - CE. To this end, the methodology used in the preparation of this study follows an exploratory and descriptive approach, and seeks to discuss the challenges and possibilities for carrying out reading mediation actions, considering the space and collection available in the reading room of the Girassol School. It is noteworthy that, as they are an important instrument to support the work of the teacher, reading rooms need to be rethought, starting with their own nomenclature and management, and it is necessary for schools to support these spaces and adopt measures so that they are used effectively, thus promoting reader formation actions in schools
