SUMMARY:

The bibliographic collections are considered sources of information, but they also preserve the memory of a place, an individual, or a community, thus playing a fundamental role in preserving these elements. In this sense, it is necessary to contribute to the understanding of the close relationship between bibliographic collections, the construction of collective memory, and their impact on the preservation of bibliographic heritage. The main objective of this study is to develop a policy for the creation of a documentation center containing the bibliographic collection amassed by the intellectual from Juazeiro, Raimundo Araújo. The specific objectives of this research are: to understand the formation of the Raimundo Araújo collection; to identify standards and guidelines for the creation of a documentation center; and to contribute to the implementation of the Raimundo Araújo documentation center. The study addresses concepts such as memory, social memory, bibliographic collection, heritage, and documentation center. The methodology is based on exploratory and descriptive research, with a qualitative bibliographic approach and a deductive method. The research will contribute to the development of the Raimundo Araújo documentation center, supporting the study of the history and culture of Cariri in Ceará, as the collection specifically comprises works related to the history of Juazeiro do Norte. Therefore, preserving and making this collection available will enable research for historians, scholars, and other interested parties. Through this research, it is possible to contribute to safeguarding the documentary heritage of Cariri in Ceará. Finally, a document with guidelines is presented to support the creation of a documentation center, using this space for preserving the Raimundo Araújo collection.
