INFORMATIONAL SERVICES: PROPOSAL FOR A PRIMER FOR SCHOOL LIBRARIES
School library. Reading. Informational services. Booklet.
The library is an informational place, where users can access information offered by the school library to acquire knowledge, thus promoting inclusion within the school environment. However, it is necessary for information to be accessible to all, allowing students to have autonomy in utilizing the library's informational services. Therefore, it is necessary to research the services provided by school libraries. In this study, we aim to present theoretical and conceptual perceptions of informational and reference services, as well as organizational characteristics of school libraries. The research question to be answered is: How does the Alpha school library in the state public network of Crato-Ceará encourage book reading? The overall objective of the research is to investigate the role of a school library through reading practices, with the goal of creating a reading promotion booklet. The specific objectives include discussing theoretical and practical aspects of reading within the context of school libraries, discussing information mediation, and proposing a booklet as a product for promoting reading in school libraries. The methodology used is bibliographic research, based on the inductive method and employing a qualitative approach. The data collection technique used is a tool called "Analysis Tool," developed by Marcos Palácios, a professor and researcher at UFBA, in the form of cards. This research is descriptive in nature. It is important to emphasize that libraries should take actions to eliminate barriers that hinder access to information and knowledge. For this purpose, libraries need to plan and adapt their services to meet the needs of diverse users, creating an inclusive informational environment that satisfies their needs. With this in mind, an Instruction Booklet was developed as part of this research, focusing on key information services such as Home Loan, Collection Consultation, Guided Visits, Reference Service, and Utility Information. Furthermore, these services can be implemented in an accessible manner in school libraries with the main objective of promoting inclusive information for students.
