Federal university presses: editorial processes for the elaboration of e-books

It refers to a research about the production of a manual with the title: proposal for an e-book editorial process for the Federal University of Cariri (UFCA). Thus, this present study was based on the following problem: How to develop an instrument to support the editorial processes of e-books for UFCA? What are the processes used in publishing digital publications in federal university presses? In the conception for the development of the manual containing examples of the dissemination of the construction of knowledge in the university. That said, the general objective is to develop a manual describing the editorial processes of e-books for UFCA, highlighting the role of the librarian-editor in editorial management. To this end, the following specific objectives were outlined: a) to reflect on the theoretical-conceptual perspectives regarding the origin of university presses, the role of the librarian-editor; b) mapping the main editorial processes of federal university presses in the production of e-books; c) develop the manual with the ideal editorial processes for publishing e-books at UFCA. The methodological route followed the deductive method, with an exploratory and descriptive purpose, presenting itself with bibliographic and documental procedures, the approach to the problem will be quali-quantitative of an applied nature. As for the theoretical framework, it demonstrated the origins and the way in which the evolution of university presses in Brazil followed, the overview of the development of e-books and the role of the librarian-editor. While in the analysis and discussion of the research results on the publishers' websites, the format for adapting digital publications was traced, during the analysis it was observed which policies were found to guarantee which content to publish, as well as the availability of finding the editorial policy which was not available in part of the analyzed ones, while the editorial team, in order to understand the function of each one, attributed the contribution of the Associação Brasileira das Editoras Universitárias (ABEU), as it can only be a university publisher if there is an association. Finally, in the final considerations, the structure of the manual was organized, which will contemplate the dissemination of scientific knowledge at the university, based on the proposal for the publication process in e-books, boosting reading for the academic environment.
