THE PUBLIC LIBRARY AS AN ENVIRONMENT MEDIATOR OF INFORMATION FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF MEMORY IN THE CITY OF FORTALEZA: PROPOSAL FOR A SERVICE

The research investigates the Public Library as an informational equipment that promotes access to all users and that has in the mediation of information the contribution to the development of its activities.
Being the mediation of information an interlocution action between the role of the public library and the process of preservation and dissemination of memory in the city of Fortaleza, in the State of Ceará.
A bibliographical research was carried out considering the contributions of authors such as Halbwachs (1990), Nora (1993), Almeida Júnior (2009), Malheiro and Ribeiro (2011), Silva (2015, 2016) and others.
The problem is based on the following question: What is the role of the public libraries of the capital of Ceará, BECE and the Municipal Public Library Dolor Barreira for the development of the memory of the neighborhoods of Fortaleza?
The general objective is: to investigate the mediation practices of the public libraries BECE and Biblioteca Pública Municipal Dolor Barreira for the preservation and dissemination of the memory of the neighborhoods of Fortaleza, aiming at the proposal of creating a cooperative service of the two public libraries, municipal and state, focused on preservation of the memory of the neighborhoods of Fortaleza. The specific objectives are: to identify the services that the two libraries BECE and the Municipal Public Library Dolor Barreira have carried out in terms of mediation; characterize the services that include other neighborhoods in the city of Fortaleza carried out by BECE and the Municipal Public Library Dolor Barreira; understand how the mediation of cultural memory works in the spaces of BECE and the Municipal Public Library Dolor Barreira and propose a cooperative service of BECE and the Municipal Public Library Dolor Barreira aimed at preserving the memory of the neighborhoods of the capital of Ceará.
The methodology is characterized in terms of objectives in descriptive terms, in terms of technical procedures in bibliography, and will use a structured questionnaire for data collection as an instrument. As a final result, a cooperative service by BPMDB and BECE will be presented as a product.
