Prison libraries in focus: proposal for a model of action from the Regional Industrial Penitentiary of Cariri

Its deal with presesentation of a study about the Penitenciária Industrial Regional do Cariri (PIRC), in order to know the nuances present there and that correspond to the
reality of several prisons throughout the country. Therefore, the work is guided by the
question- problem: how is it possible to propose an action model for prison libraries
applied to the Penitenciária Regional Industrial do Cariri and other prisons? Thus, the
general objective of this research is to investigate the prison libraries in the context of
the Industrial Regional Penitentiary of Cariri, aiming at the proposition of an action
model. As specific objectives, it is intended to reflect on prison institutions in the
context of the prison community and prison libraries; identify the aspects that compose
the structure of the library performance of the Penitenciária Industrial Regional do
Cariri; and address possible practices of the prison library for optimization of the
situation of the prison community. Regarding the methodological classification, the
research is classified as descriptive, regarding its objectives; qualitative, regarding the
nature of the research; case study, regarding the choice of the object; and interview,
bibliographical and documental research, regarding the data collection technique. It is
expected that the availability of this work will be able to contribute to the prison body,
through changes in future performance of prison libraries much more than just reading
activities and positively impacting the human condition of the detainee.
