SUMMARY:

Cataloging, in addition to the library environment and the descriptive representation of bibliographic materials, as is traditionally done with books, can be carried out in different types of informational resources, in the most diverse supports, following description patterns that aim at sharing, cooperation and recovery of these materials. The present research has as its theme the cataloging of textile flags, a topic little explored in the studies in the area of Librarianship, but which is commonly used in the fabrics of the Fashion Design and Styling Courses. For the development of the research, the general objective is to identify the requirements, norms and standards for the representation and description of textile flags in tecitecas and to achieve it, the specific objectives are: to highlight the importance of techniques organization and representation of information in fabrics for the knowledge area of Fashion Design and Styling; verify which data are necessary for the representation of textile flags and how these are described by the cataloging norms and rules; and, structuring a manual of guidelines for the cataloging of textile flags from the Tecidoteca of the Universidade Federal do Piauí (UFPI). It is configured as applied research, with a qualitative approach and in terms of objectives it is exploratory-descriptive, as it is a topic that requires a thematic deepening and from which the guidelines for the cataloging of textile flags will be identified and described, according to the representation standards of the Anglo American Cataloging Rules - 2nd edition (AACR2) and the Resource Description and Access (RDA), as well as the Machine Readable Cataloging 21 (Marc21) fields for cataloging tissue samples. The research addresses the Organization and Representation of Information and Knowledge, identifying where the descriptive representation fits and highlights the trajectory of cataloging and its instruments; then, the history of Fashion is analyzed, from the point of view of Moscovici's Social Representations (2003), and the importance of Tecitecas for Fashion courses is exposed. Finally, we present the proposal for the product that will be developed based on the norms, areas, fields and subfields that must be filled in to catalog textile flags according to AACR2, Marc21 and RDA.
