SUMMARY:

This is a research that analyzes the comprehension of a text with written reading resources in sign language (Signwriting). To observe it, a small group of students from the Literature-Libras course at the Federal University of Cariri (UFCA) who have contact with Libras and its written system, to verify the effectiveness in understanding a text. The proposal will use the literature of Patativa do Assaré, specifically addressing the poems, in order to understand the cultural relationship, regional expressions and concepts existing in the writings of the poet from the sertão. The Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) has a communicative structure with visual-spatial aspects, where all communication is presented in a clear way through movements that are distinguished as parameters: Hand configuration (CM); Movements(M); Pivot point (PA); Direction(D); and Non-Manual Movements (MNM). To carry out this research, a group of deaf and hearing students from UFCA's Literature-Libras course were selected to read two poems by Patativa do Assaré. In a first moment done by signaling an interpreter, a second moment, with the written representation of these poems. The aim of this research is to point out the effectiveness of a reading made through the writing system of Sign Language, bringing autonomy of understanding in the comprehension of a text.
