VIRTUAL COLLECTIONS IN THE PUBLIC SCHOOL LIBRARY ELEMENTARY EDUCATION II: CHALLENGES AND TRENDS

The research investigates the products and services of a virtual nature offered by
libraries of public elementary schools II in the municipality of Juazeiro do
North to its students. It is anchored, therefore, from the following problem question:
to what extent the creation of virtual collections can complement the physical collection
offered by the public elementary school library? The general objective of
research consists of verifying in what tone the virtual collections can complement the
printed collection offered by school libraries described in the aforementioned clipping.
As specific objectives, there are: (I) mapping the virtual services offered by the
three largest elementary schools II in Juazeiro do Norte to their students; (II)
Check the number of students who make use of the initiatives offered by the
library; (III) verify the qualitative relationship between the available virtual collection and the
target audience (public school students) in the didactic-pedagogical aspects.
In this way, we seek, through this investigation, to promote a discussion
more focused on the potential, feasibility and applicability of
virtual initiatives by public school libraries, in order to propose
a systematic action strategy applicable to these information units. THE
The present investigation fits as social research, given the fact that
allows and proposes the acquisition of new knowledge in a certain segment
social (elementary school II students, from the sixth to the ninth year of public school),
whose cut is limited to the three largest public elementary schools II
of the municipality of Juazeiro do Norte and which impact about four thousand five hundred
(4,500) students, directly. The ongoing research, which has an exploratory character.
It aims to provide greater familiarity with the problem in question, in order to
make it more explicit. The research is characterized as quantitative and qualitative,
descriptive, documentary, field. Makes use of bibliographic review procedures
combined with content analysis, which allows for categorization and, therefore,
therefore, a better understanding of the data. Data collection was carried out
through a structured questionnaire applied to professionals working in libraries
researched and author/researcher's observations during visits to the
researched. From the theoretical and empirical framework, it was found that it is possible to
think about the performance of the school library more effectively with the public for it
desired, through simple and perfectly feasible virtual initiatives. of this
way, it is possible to contribute in a more significant way in the formation of the skills
student readers.
