Memory places: voices and silences in urban memories in the city of Crato / CE
Urban Memory. Places of memory. Memory and Oblivion.
This dissertation aims to discuss memory from the specific perspective of forgetfulness,
working on the intrinsic relationship between the two. Based on this relationship, it seeks to
look at the constitution of urban memories and how they are shaped by processes of frameworks
that use forgetfulness in memory to meet specific interests. This study starts from a logical
research basis based on the inductive method, and from the perspective of the technical bases of
investigation, is anchored in the historical method. The objective is from the observation of a
specific reality, which is the urban memory of the city of Crato and the constitution of its places
of memory; to promote with this, the debate between forgetfulness and its implications in the
memorialist construction of urban spaces.It aims to reflect on memory, forgetfulness and silence
and debate the concept of urban memory and the production of mnemonic discourses in the
context of cities. At the end, it is proposed to develop a social cartography of the urban memory
of the city of Crato, listing the mapped places and their relations with the memory, history and
culture of the region
