The librarian in the post-truth era: information, memory and power in social networks.

This research deals with some issues in emphasis on the media and scientific community of information
professionals since the events that occurred in 2016, as supposed influences of Russian agents in elections
in other countries and on Brexit until mid-2020 with the principle of the pandemic by corona virus
(Covid-19), diagnosed as it was of the post-truth. In this connection between memory, tribal instincts and
global connectivity in the liquidity scenario, the mission of mediation of information professionals should
be carried out to provide dialogue between the extremes. The objective of this proposal is to diagnose the
particularities of the conceptual and historical origins of information and collective memory, its effects on
the contexts of disinformation and dissemination of false news and what attitude of the librarian society
needs in this context. To this end, it is intended to plan the following steps: (a) to analyze by historical
and cultural approach the concepts of memory and truth their relations with the conceptions of power; (b)
investigate similar phenomena from post-truth and the possible consequences of their large-scale use in
social networks in the context of postmodernity and liquid modernity; (c) visualizing with the movement
of informational mediation can help in the practices and services offered by informational environments;
(d) develop an annual training schedule for conscious use of information in the media, social networks
and messaging applications, directed to the needs of the academic community of IFMA, Campus Caxias,
developing the skills of critical reading, checking information sources and using reliable research sources.
It is assumed that the librarian acting as an information mediator in the development of the informational
competence of the belonging community, will lead users in the process of filtering, critical use,
verifiability of information and interactions in social networks. This professional will positively lead to
his social mission of digital empowerment and information literacy, basing belonging and place of action
in society, will remember as the next step in the evolution of his professional duties. A phenomenological
approach was used, using action research to map and diagnose the information consumption profiles of
the community served to better provide training in order to bring them to full information literacy, making
them individuals able to the contexts of the technological revolution due to ICTs in the liquidity scenario.
Formulating and offering continuing training for information literacy to be offered as a permanent service
of the Professor Luís Queirois library, of the Instituto Federal do Maranhão, Campus Caxias, in addition
to the continuity of existing ones, in order to provide channels of permanent dialogues for reflection and
development of critical content analysis.
