Institutional Repositories: Guide to Good Practices to Expand the Dissemination of Scientific Knowledge from the Institutional Repository of the Federal University of Cariri
Scientific communication. Trends in digital institutional repositories. Good practice guide.
This is a study on the production of a good practice guide to expand the dissemination of
scientific knowledge in the institutional repository of the Universidade Federal do Cariri
(UFCA). In view of this, this study was based on the following problem: What practices can
contribute to better dissemination of scientific knowledge in the project for the implementation
of the digital institutional repository of the Sistema de Bibliotecas (SIBI) of UFCA? It is
assumed that the development of a guide containing good practices inherent to the management
of institutional repositories based on trends in scientific communication will guide managers in
the implementation and management of institutional repositories. In view of this, it has the
general objective of implementing good scientific communication management practices in the
project to implement UFCA's institutional repository. To this end, the following specific
objectives were outlined: a) to characterize diffusion practices in the flow of scientific
communication; b) investigate trends in the process of implementing and managing national
and international institutional digital repositories; c) to identify the actions that are being
implemented in the project to implant the SIBI UFCA repository, as well as to outline the
necessary guidelines for the management of institutional repositories; and, d) develop a guide
of good practices in the management of institutional repositories to expand the dissemination of
scientific knowledge from the digital repository of SIBI UFCA. In the theoretical framework,
the origins and practices of disseminating scientific communication were explained, as well as
the trends in the generation, dissemination, access and use of scientific knowledge in digital
institutional repositories. The methodological path uses the deductive method, with an
exploratory purpose presenting bibliographic, documentary and Delphi methods, the approach
to the problem will be qualitative and is classified as applied research. Finally, in the partial
considerations, the guide of good practices was structured, emphasizing the practices inherent
to the generation, dissemination, access and use in institutional repositories that will be the final
product of this study. It is inferred that the guide will benefit both UFCA repository managers
and potential managers from other institutions, thus maximizing the dissemination of
institutional scientific knowledge.
