It aims to investigate the contribution of the school library and the professional librarian in the training of the high school student integrated with the technician, as well as to investigate if there are reading projects directed to the students by the teachers, and if there is not, how the librarians can intervene in a way to attend this public, aiming at the formation of readers and the continuous incentive to the reading, with a view to becoming a present practice in the daily of the students, favoring them in the scope of personal and professional formation. The methodological approach was based on a bibliographical review on the subject, being followed up later with the elaboration of questionnaires to be applied to the professionals of the school, in order to verify the reading activities that are or that can be carried out with the students. It is expected from the accomplishment of this work, the elaboration of a policy of performance of the school libraries, that is composed of a set of activities aimed at the development of the reading competence of the students.
