In contemporary society, Information and Communication Technologies are used as a basic tool for the communication of people, so that individuals who are not connected will be part of the digitally excluded society. This paper presents as problematic the following questioning: the Municipal Public Library of Juazeiro do Norte is prepared for the insertion of its work in the public library of Juazeiro do Norte. community in information technology? This research is justified academically by the fact that information is an interdisciplinary vehicle and must be processed and disseminated clearly in society; professionally, since the librarian, independent of his or her informational environment, must institute forms of inclusion, through activities that can be made available to his surroundings; and socially, because the concern to keep the individuals connected, regardless of their social position, is not only a concern of the economic sector, but it is a question of democratization of access to information and technologies. It presents as general objective to reflect on the role of the public library in the information society, with a specific look at the digital inclusion in the Municipal Public Library Dr. Possidônio da Silva Well, to the public of the third age (old people over 60 years old). Its specific objectives are: to identify, among the elderly, the meanings of social inclusion; investigate how the elderly understand and expose the experience of digital inclusion; verify / describe the motivations to include themselves digitally, and perceived changes after digital inclusion; and evaluate the process of inclusion and independence of this group, before the use of technologies. Offering as a general hypothesis: the provision of a wi-fi network and a Telecentre (a room composed of 10 computers) to its community, providing virtual access, contributing modestly to digital inclusion. With this, it is expected that the Library is working for the digital inclusion of the elderly in this Information Society. Proposes as Final Product, an institutional primer of good practices, for the digital inclusion of the elderly, so that the action can be developed in other informational spaces.
