RESUMO:

The present work approaches as one of the most important issues of contemporary society in the so - called information society: Document Management. In order to do so, an investigation was made on the procedures for the management of the documents concerning the students of the Federal University of Cariri - UFCA - through a case study on the procedures related to the management from its production to the archiving of the data, as well as digital, thus characterizing our overall goal. Our specific objectives are: to evaluate the production, use and archiving of documents; to compare if the methods used in the Archiving are in accordance with the guidelines of the official legislation and norms, and, finally, to elaborate a Manual of Documentary Management with guidelines that standardize the management practices of the UFCA, constituting the latter as the final product, supported by the hypothesis that the institution does not have a standard rule that guides the methods of archiving its documents preserving institutional memory that meet individual and collective interests. A literary review was carried out on themes such as "management and documentary treatment", encompassing historical / chronological concepts, laws and archival practices, as well as the "concept of memory with an institutional approach. As for the methodological procedures, the research is descriptive, exploratory and with a qualitative approach. In addition to the literature review, the data collection of the research was developed through the empirical procedure through structured interviews, applied to two groups of servers in strategic sectors of the UFCA, they wanted to deal directly with documentary production / filing. The discussion of the results focused on the analysis of the discourses without losing sight of our research hypothesis, also dialoguing with authors of articles / books on the subject. It is expected as a result of the work that our final product contributes to the documentary management of the Federal University of Cariri.
