Public library: requirements for development of a collection management software
Biblioteca Pública. Sistema de Informação. Ciência da Informação. Gestão da Informação. Estudo de usuário.
Contextualize public libraries in the technological universe of information systems in contemporary society, given that in these scenarios information flows more quickly and more easily, contributing to the process of improvement, availability, access, use of information as well as organization, storage, control and retrieval in order to contribute to organizational success and decision making. The question that bases the study is based on the following perspective: whatisthe reality ofpubliclibrariesregardingthe use ofautomation software? Generally, contemplates the realization in practice of the identification of the indispensable and desirable requirements that software needs to have to meet the needs of an information unit, but specifically focused on the quality of software in use in the management and retrieval of information in the public libraries of Ceará. It points specifically: mapthe software used in publiclibraries in Ceará; investigatinghowinformation systems improve performance in theinformationunit management process; reflectontheimportanceofthelibrarian in thedevelopmentof software for libraries; andproposeguidelines (Manual) for thedevelopmentofpubliclibraryautomation software. As for methodological procedures, the study points to a construction of ideas based on functionalist thinking starting from the observational and/or comparative method, by means of an exploratory and descriptive survey, based on the use of bibliographies and documents. Regarding the survey of the data, is effective starting from a field study contemplating the specific reality of each library through a qualitative and quantitative delineation. Through the application of questionnaires formulated with open/closed questions directed to librarians and auxiliaries, the data will be tabulated, analyzed and described in a clear and objective way, based on the optics of the software quality characteristics defined by the Institute Standard Organization (ISO) 9126 (functionality, reliability, usability, efficiency, maintainability and portability). As a result, despite the numerous software that exists and that appear throughout the ages, by means of this investigation and by observation/comparison, diagnosis of the situation and the practical phase of verification of the operation based on the needs of the users and if this will satisfy satisfactorily through the use/handling of the software, we seek to present the academic community and society with an SI model, with their respective terminologies clear and well defined to later carry out their development strategically efficiently, because the SI are considered a set of elements composed of functions determined by the activities developed within an environment, are used for the improvement of the decisions in the institution, allowing the control in the informational management and the quality in the offer of the products/services.
