RESUMO:

It addresses public policies and accessibility strategies directed at persons with
disabilities within the school library, in the light of current legislation and literature in
the area. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to study the libraries of schools in the
state public school system in the city of Juazeiro do Norte, CE. The methodological
procedures used typify the research as exploratory, with a documentary design,
presenting a quantitative-qualitative approach, having as a research technique for the
data collection the application of questionnaires, both in the aforementioned Schools, as
well as to the members that make up the nineteenth Regional Coordination of 

Education Development (19ª CREDE), with the purpose of making a comparison with
what the Education Department establishes and the reality observed in schools, so that it
is possible to understand, through documentary analysis, what and how accessibility
policies are applied in school libraries and, on the basis of these data, build strategies to
provide people with disabilities with access to the spaces and collections of these
libraries. The results show that the school libraries of the state education network of the
city of Juazeiro do Norte do not offer full accessibility, as well as accessibility policies
that partially contemplate some schools, a fact that makes it difficult to care for people
with disabilities.
