INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE IN INSTITUTIONAL REPOSITORIES: a analysis in the Federal Northeastern Universities
Information Architecture. Institutional repositories.
Digital repositories.
The range of works developed within the academic institutions by the
teachers and students result in a niche of information often dispersed
due to the lack of organization, thus necessitating an adequate space for
store and, above all, disseminate such information in order to
user / researcher. For this reason, the implementation of Institutional Repositories
(IR) becomes a growing, especially in educational and research institutions,
as is the case with universities. For this reason more and more these
are adopting RI. However, for this content to reach visibility,
these repositories need to be politically planned according to
the needs of each institution and technically designed / engineered in
accordance with the components indicated by the Information Architecture. THE
described previously instigated to question how the Architecture of the
Information is presented in these types of repositories. It was then formulated
As the digital information that makes up the most
of scientific works have been structured / presented to the users of these
Institutional repositories in the light of Information Architecture? The corpus was delimited
analysis from a cut that reaches the Northeast Region. Based on this
Federal universities of the nine states that
this region to, from a systematized investigation, verify if they have IR,
to try to answer the research question. This work has as objective
general: Investigate interfaces of Institutional Repositories of Federal Universities
of the Northeast Region, based on the theoretical and methodological assumptions of the
Information Architecture (AI). And as specific objectives: a) Map the IRs of the
Federal Universities of NE; b) Describe and analyze the elements of Architecture
of the information present in the chosen sample; c) Develop a manual from the
of the observations made on the IR pages of the chosen sample, suggesting some
modifications (if necessary) in the AI. The data were collected through access to the
pages of the IR of the mentioned Universities, the information acquired was
analyzed based on the Information Architecture systems as represented.

The organizational system was analyzed according to the organizational model of the AI,
top-down. We also analyzed the systems of organization,
navigation, labeling and search from the perspective of Rosenfeld, Morville and Arango.
The aim of this work is to develop a manual that will be composed of a
set of guidelines, based on the literature of the area, suggesting some improvements
(if necessary) in the IR under analysis, in the light AI. As well as helping
institutional repositories to carry out their work to build and maintain repositories of
quality. It is hoped that this will serve as a basic intervention tool, but
great relevance for professionals in the area of Library Science and
Information, since both work with the dissemination and organization of the
information in different media and media. And both Information Architecture
Institutional Repositories are rising issues in the area.
