RESUMO:

This research presents a reflection on three points pertinent to the good functioning of public libraries for the deaf reader, based on the assumption that all informational space should be adapted according to the structure, culture and policies that meet the specifics of its users. In this sense, this qualification text is structured in sections that deal with: deaf culture and identity, promoting a discussion about the cultural and linguistic peculiarities and potentialities of deafness and the dialogue that libraries promote as social agents; in a second point it discusses the public policies of accessibility, raising the considerations on the strategies of inclusion that are being understood and amplified in the society; finally, it provides the guidelines of the libraries to assist the deaf public, where an exploratory research will be carried out to identify if there are applications of these guidelines in the Cariri Region, specifically in the cities of Barbalha, Crato and Juazeiro do Norte , which form the so-called Crajubar Triangle. Observations, interviews and verification of accessibility policies will be carried out, based on the document of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), the Guidelines for Library Services to Deaf People. Finally, it proposes to contribute to establishing new reflections on the debates about the deaf culture and its relationship with libraries, through the elaboration of a product, which will be a guide on the libraries in the region that welcome deaf people, where it will provide reference of collections and services for dissemination among the deaf community. The guide will be printed and video with the translation of the information to Libras.
