The construction of mobile application as an information product: a proposal for university libraries

Proposes a mobile application model as an information product for University Libraries. It discusses in advance the significant importance of mobile devices in the contemporary scenario, having a direct impact on the search, access, use and seizure of information society. It also discusses the relationship and possible influence of applications developed for mobile devices aimed at mediation actions in the field of University Libraries. The central problem of the research is defined in: how to think the action in University Libraries with information products from the elaboration of a proposal of mobile application? The general objective of the research is to investigate the performance of the university library through information products, aiming the construction of a mobile application proposal in the national context. The proposed methodology consists of a theoretical, deductive method, bibliographic, exploratory and descriptive study, and a qualitative approach (as to the nature of how the data will be obtained and analyzed). The research will be carried out in three stages, the first one consisting of the theoretical discussion about mobile devices, information products and understanding of the user's relationship with the information products offered by the university library. The second step is the analysis of national and international applications. The third step consists of the analysis of questionnaires applied with the librarians who participated in the development of the applications of the national libraries. It is concluded that from the elaboration of the product the mobile application for the university libraries can contemplate the following structure: Information of the university library, which aims to make available to users information about general library; Services, which may be sub-categorized in reference services, scientific communication services, public utilities and cultural action services; Products, which seeks to make library products available; Talk to the Library so that users have a fast and dynamic communication space with the library; Events, to organize lists and facilitate access; Social Networks, to promote the tools used by the library.
