Memory and forgetfulness: memories of the elderly as a source of information in the process of building collective memory
Memory. Information. Seniors.
The perceptions around memory have been, for centuries, the object of study of philosophers and scientists of the most diverse areas of knowledge. Its concept has been changing and adapting to the functions and social uses in different societies. In the perspective of the Human and Social Sciences, memory is studied as a product of the relations of social interaction between individual and society that, affecting each other, generate connections capable of producing meanings and meanings in a dynamic and dialogical scenario. In this direction, the present study seeks to understand the interlocutions between individual and collective memory, their similarities and tensions; the contributions of the individual memory in the process of construction of collective memory and the relations established between them and the official memory. Based on a qualitative and exploratory study, anchored in the dialectic and hermeneutics, we intend to go through the stories of life stories of subjects that, due to their long biographical route, represent potential links between the present and the past: the elderly . The research will be carried out with elderly people living in the host house Fundação Abrigo São Lucas, located in Teresina-PI. Through interviews according to the focused modality, it is intended to stimulate the production of narratives from which knowledge, personal and collective memories may emerge, in a process of re-signification of reality, through the reconstitution of memory. In this process, the technique of photo-interviewing will also be used, which consists in the presentation of photographs as memory triggering resources. In light of the authors here, it is intended to understand the events investigated, considering their contexts and peculiarities, developing a progressive and organically constructed dialogue with memory, in its social function, and with information in its recorded form, highlighting the role of this the process of preservation and transmission of the senses produced and redefined by memory.
